Student leadership is critical in the fight to end college student hunger. In addition to developing their skills and offering network opportunities, Swipe Out Hunger values and recognizes students’ voices and influence by providing stipends for their passionate efforts in their communities.

With your support, Swipe Out Hunger can provide financial awards to students involved with our Student Leadership and Advisory Council — a cohort of dedicated student leaders who represent the collective student voice, lend their experiences to shape Swipe Out Hunger’s mission, and work tirelessly in their campus communities so that no student goes hungry.

Meet some of the incredible student leaders in our network!

My ability to manage my campus pantry has been elevated so much because of Swipe Out Hunger and because of the Student Leadership and Advisory Council especially. We have so many students coming in, and being able to provide them with everything they need has been difficult, but the time with Swipe has made it so much more accessible for us and we can provide so much more for students.

I manage the food pantry like ordering, stocking, taking inventory, and greeting students when they come in and making them feel welcome — that’s a really important part of it. We actually get a lot of comments where people come in here and say that it just feels like a happy place. A lot of people will refer their friends and it’s really nice to see that they feel welcome and can shop whenever they want.

The more we learned the more passionate we got. We surveyed over 3,000 students in Arkansas and one in every three of those students was classified as food insecure. We knew we couldn’t just sit on that data and we had to do something. The Arkansas College Hunger Summit was born in collaboration with the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance and the movement has just grown from there.

This year, Swipe Out Hunger aims to raise $5,000 to compensate student leaders for their time and engagement, ensuring that more more students who have lived experience with food insecurity are able to participate in this valuable leadership opportunity.
